The Aurora Mall is set to close this weekend and Westfield is also slated to close Saturday.
Aurora officials said Friday that the mall will be closed Sunday and the mall is expected to reopen Monday.
The mall will not reopen until it can secure enough parking spaces to accommodate all of the mall’s residents.
“We are in the process of assessing the best course of action for our residents and staff,” Aurora mall spokesman David Lasker said in a statement.
Westfield, a major shopping center in the western suburbs of Aurora, also is expected at the mall to close Friday, according to officials.
Westfarms, a company that owns Westfield and Aurora, has been leasing the mall from the city of Aurora since 2013.
The company has had a contract with the city to lease space at the Westfield mall since it opened in 2008.
Westfeld’s lease expires this weekend.
Westland announced Friday that it would close Saturday and Sunday.
A statement said the mall would reopen at 9 a.m.
Amber Crenshaw, a spokeswoman for the city, said in an email Friday that Westfield had not yet been given a date for reopening.
“There is no immediate plan to reopen the mall at this time,” Crensey said.
