Auburn will move forward with the hiring of new coach Kirby Smart after the team’s season ends, a source confirmed to AP on Thursday.
Smart was hired in February after spending seven seasons at Mississippi State and serving as Auburn’s offensive coordinator from 2006-13.
The school has been working on a replacement for him since February and has not yet decided which job will be filled.
“We’re still in the process of looking at the best person for the job,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said.
“But we’re excited to be a part of this.
It’s really a great organization, we have great people.
So we’re looking forward to having Kirby Smart come back and coach here.”
